All about Josh
Josh Menchions is a dynamic comedian, accessibility advocate, and leader in Newfoundland and Labrador’s arts community. Since starting his comedy career in 2018, he has brought humor to the forefront of accessibility awareness, using his performances to engage audiences with his unique perspective. Josh is the founder of Standup NFLD, an initiative launched in 2024 to organize and expand Newfoundland’s comedy scene, making it easier for audiences to find shows and for comedians to connect with their community. His weekly show, Last Minute Comedy, has become a local staple, known for showcasing both established and emerging talent.
In addition to his work in comedy, Josh is deeply committed to advancing accessibility. He founded Accessible NL in 2018 to support inclusive community spaces and foster partnerships with local businesses to improve accessibility. His expertise has also been instrumental in his roles as chair of Power Productions Inc. and as a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Accessibility Advisory Board. Power Productions, a registered non-profit professional theatre company, represents disability, Deaf, and MAD Arts culture through productions and collaborations across Canada, featuring artists with lived experiences of disability, Deafness, and mental health challenges.
Josh also contributes to the Canadian Association of Stand-up, Sketch and Improv Comedians (CASC), which aims to build a dynamic comedy industry in Canada by engaging aspiring and established comedians through advocacy, career opportunities, and professional development. His advocacy has received national recognition, with media features including a CBC article on comedy and disability and an episode of Our Community by AMI: Accessible Media Inc. His ability to connect through humor, advocacy, and community building continues to inspire inclusive change across Newfoundland and beyond.
